Description
This vintage 1979 M.J. Hummel annual collector plate, titled “Singing Lesson,” is the ninth issue in the original annual plate series produced by W. Goebel Porzellanfabrik in West Germany and based on the artwork of Sister Maria Innocentia Hummel. The hand-painted porcelain plate features a raised bas-relief scene of a young boy seated on the grass playing a wooden flute while a small yellow songbird listens from a nearby branch. The figure is depicted wearing a green jacket, feathered hat, and orange-toned trousers, set within a cream-colored field bordered by a ring of incised stars, with the year “1979” displayed in red at the lower front. The reverse typically bears the M.J. Hummel signature, W. Goebel trademark, and model number HUM 272. The plate measures approximately 7½ inches in diameter and remains in good overall condition with light, age-appropriate wear.
