Description
The eleventh edition in the M.I. Hummel Annual Plate series by W. Goebel Porzellanfabrik, Rödental, West Germany, model Hum 274, issued in 1981. The 7.5-inch diameter plate features a bas-relief depiction of the "Umbrella Boy" motif, based on the original artwork of Sister Maria Innocentia Hummel (1909–1946) and derived from the Hummel figurine Hum 152/A. Hand-painted in polychrome on a cream ground with a matte-to-satin glaze. The verso bears the TMK-6 ("Missing Bee") trademark in blue underglaze, the M.I. Hummel facsimile signature, "Eleventh Edition" designation, and factory markings including "W. Goebel Porzellanfabrik, Rodental, West Germany," with a design copyright date of 1973. The foot rim is pierced with two holes for wall mounting. The Annual Plate series was inaugurated in 1971 to mark the centenary of the Goebel factory; each edition was produced for a single year, after which the molds were destroyed. Accompanied by the original box. Condition: significant crazing visible across the front surface, consistent with age-related glaze stress in Goebel ceramics; box exhibits shelf wear, edge rubbing, and creasing.
