Description
A W. Goebel Porzellanfabrik M.J. Hummel Annual Plate, 14th edition, dated 1984, model Hum 277, depicting the "Little Helper" motif — a young girl in a blue headscarf carrying a basket of apples — rendered in polychrome hand-painted underglaze bas-relief on a cream ground. Based on the original artwork of Sister Maria Innocentia Hummel (Berta Hummel), the bas-relief adaptation is attributed to master sculptor Gerhard Skrobek. The Hummel Annual Plate series was introduced in 1971 to mark the centennial of the Goebel factory in Rödental, West Germany, and ran through 1995; the "Little Helper" design draws from figurine Hum 73. The reverse bears blue-printed Goebel backstamp with the TMK-6 ("Missing Bee") trademark used from 1979 to 1991, along with printed text reading "W. Goebel Porzellanfabrik," "Rödental, West Germany," "Hand Painted," "14th Annual Plate," "Fourteenth Edition," and "NOT TO BE USED FOR FOOD." The model number Hum 277 and incised "M.J. Hummel" signature appear on the plate. The foot rim is pierced with two holes for wall display. Accompanied by the original box. Condition is good overall with visible crazing on the underside glaze; the box shows yellowed tape residue on the front. Diameter approximately 7.5 inches (19 cm).
