Description
A hand-painted bas-relief porcelain collector plate by W. Goebel Porzellanfabrik of Rödental, Germany, model Hum 289, titled "Doll Bath" (German: "Puppenbad"), dated 1993. This is the 23rd edition in the M.J. Hummel Annual Plate Series of 25, produced from 1971 to 1995 — a series launched to commemorate the centenary of the Goebel factory. The design, based on the original artwork of Sister Maria Innocentia Hummel (Berta Hummel, 1909–1946), depicts a young girl bathing a doll in a washtub, rendered in polychrome earth tones with a matte finish. The rim features raised star motifs. The obverse bears the incised "M.J. Hummel" signature and the date "1993" in relief. The reverse is marked "W. Goebel Porzellanfabrik," "Rödental, Germany," "Hum 289," "23rd Edition in a Series of 25," "The M.J. Hummel Annual Plate Series 1971–1995," "Handpainted," "Not to Be Used for Food," and "1990," along with the Goebel TMK-7 trademark (the Reunification Mark, used 1990–1999). The pierced foot rim allows for wall hanging without additional hardware. Diameter: 7½ inches. Accompanied by the original trilingual box. Condition: good overall with normal signs of handling wear consistent with age; no significant chips, cracks, or paint loss observed.
