Description
A W. Goebel Porzellanfabrik M.J. Hummel Annual Plate, model Hum 288, titled "Ways of Harmony," the 22nd edition in the official 25-year series produced from 1971 to 1995. The 7½-inch diameter plate features a bas-relief motif of a boy seated on a fence with a bird, a composition associated with the "Wayside Harmony" figurine (Hum 111), rendered in handpainted earth tones against a cream ground. The rim is encircled by 33 embossed stars, and the date "1992" appears in red on the front. The front bears the incised M.J. Hummel signature; the reverse is marked "W. GOEBEL PORZELLANFABRIK / RÖDENTAL, GERMANY," "HANDPAINTED," "NOT TO BE USED FOR FOOD," "22nd EDITION IN A SERIES OF 25," a 1984 copyright date, and the printed blue Goebel TMK-7 crown logo used between 1991 and 1999. The foot rim is pierced with two holes for wall hanging. Based on the original artwork of Sister Maria Innocentia Hummel (1909–1946), whose drawings were first adapted by Goebel in 1935, the Annual Plate series was introduced to mark the centenary of the Goebel factory. Offered with its original box. Plate in good condition with no visible damage; box exhibits minor shelf wear at corners.
