Description
A W. Goebel Porzellanfabrik hand-painted porcelain annual plate, model Hum 287, titled "Just Resting," depicting in bas-relief a young girl seated on a fence with a basket — a motif drawn from the original artwork of Sister Maria Innocentia Hummel (1909–1946). The 21st edition in the Annual Plate series, which Goebel inaugurates in 1971 to mark the centenary of the factory's founding, this example measures approximately 7.5 inches (19 cm) in diameter and features a matte cream ground with multicolor hand-painted decoration in red, green, yellow, and brown tones. The rim carries the series' characteristic border of 33 embossed stars. The obverse is incised with the M.J. Hummel signature at right; the verso bears the printed blue M.J. Hummel and Goebel marks, trilingual edition text ("Jahresteller 1991 / Annual Plate 1991 / Assiette décorative 1991"), the factory designation "W. Goebel Porzellanfabrik, Rödental, Germany," a 1984 design copyright date, and a pierced rim for wall display. The backstamp reading "Germany" rather than "West Germany" reflects the TMK-7 (Hummel Mark) trademark introduced in 1991 following German reunification. Offered with its original box. The plate is in apparently excellent condition with no visible chips, cracks, or paint loss; the box exhibits minor shelf wear and light discoloration consistent with storage.
