Description
Two pieces of imperial topaz, a rare and highly valued variety of the topaz gemstone known for its vibrant golden-yellow, orange, pink, or reddish-orange hues. The pieces are raw and uncut, with 13.04 carats. Imperial topaz is distinguished by its rich, warm colors caused by trace elements like chromium and iron. The most prized colors are a saturated orange or reddish-orange. While topaz is generally common, the "imperial" variety is much less frequently found, especially in large, flawless crystals. Topaz has a hardness of 8 on the Mohs scale, making it a relatively durable gemstone for jewelry, but it does have perfect cleavage, meaning it can split if hit sharply. The primary source of fine imperial topaz is the Ouro Preto region of Minas Gerais, Brazil, where it was first discovered in the 18th century. Other sources include Russia and Pakistan. Good condition.
