Description
This hand-formed pottery bowl, crafted from Maui clay, is inspired by Hawaii’s volcanic landscape and the mythology of the goddess Pele. The exterior features a rugged, lava-like matte black texture created through the traditional Raku firing process, while the interior displays a smooth, glossy cobalt-blue glaze reminiscent of molten lava or ocean waters, creating a striking contrast. Each piece is individually shaped and fired at temperatures above 2000°F, then placed into a reduction pit with organic materials such as leaves and wood shavings. This process produces the distinctive dark surface, tonal variations, and one-of-a-kind character typical of Raku ceramics. This example retains its original tags and dates to the late 20th to early 21st century. Dimensions: approximately 3.5" diameter x 1.5" high. Condition: Good vintage condition with minor surface variations consistent with handmade Raku pottery.
