Description
This square decorative trinket box is crafted in the traditional Chinese cinnabar style and dates to the early–mid 20th century. The exterior features finely carved floral and scrolling motifs, with the lid prominently decorated by blooming peonies and rock imagery—symbols traditionally associated with prosperity, longevity, and honor in Chinese art. The sides display continuous arabesque and geometric patterns that enhance the depth and visual richness of the carving. The vivid red surface imitates classic cinnabar lacquer, historically prized in China for its brilliant vermilion tone and protective qualities when applied in layered coatings over carved designs. The box measures approximately 5 inches long, 5 inches wide, and 2½ inches high. It remains in good overall condition with light wear consistent with age and careful use.
