Description
This lot includes a variety of traditional, hand-crafted percussion and sound-making instruments made primarily from natural materials such as wood, dried animal hooves, seed pods, and metal. The assortment reflects folk music traditions where simple organic materials are used for rhythm in dance, ceremony, or performance. The group features goat hoof rattles (chajchas) attached to a soft band for wrist or ankle wear, polished seed or nut shakers that produce a mellow tone, and a small double-sided hand or “monkey” drum with a wooden handle and natural skin head activated by twisting motion. Also included are a small silver-colored metal whistle or horn and pairs of smooth wooden clappers or castanet-style instruments tied with colorful cord for rhythmic clicking sounds. The longest instrument measures approximately 11 inches in length. All pieces are in good overall condition with light wear consistent with normal use.
