Description
This Kutani ware incense burner (koro or censer) is an intricately crafted, lidded hexagonal ceramic vessel distinguished by vibrant overglaze enamels in the traditional gosai palette of green, yellow, purple, navy blue, and red. Raised on three small feet, the body features two arcing green-glazed handles and richly detailed hand-painted decoration. Six surrounding panels depict finely rendered landscape scenes with trees, mountains, and architectural elements, while the remaining surfaces are filled with dense green crosshatch patterning accented by delicate gold kinrande detailing. The domed lid is crowned with a sculptural Shishi guardian lion finial, symbolizing protection and good fortune, and bears a Fuku mark (福) associated with Kutani porcelain decoration. Measuring approximately 9½ inches high by 7 inches in diameter, the piece remains in good condition.
