Description
This is a mid-20th century Japanese sake bottle produced as Shimizu Ware, also known as Bush Ware. The bottle is a traditional tokkuri form with a polygonal body and an off-white ceramic ground. It features hand-painted overglaze enamel decoration with gold accents, characteristic of Japanese craftsmanship of the period. The decoration depicts a winter scene with architectural elements and landscape details, with raised dot textures suggesting snow-covered surfaces. A small bird figurine with gold detailing is applied at the top edge of the bottle. The underside is stamped with the place of manufacture in Japan. It measures approximately 6 inches in height, and is in good condition.
