Description
An antique tiger oak cabinet, possibly functioning as a washstand or a music cabinet, dating from the late 19th to early 20th century. Its defining features include the striking "tiger oak" or quarter-sawn oak grain, decorative carvings, a small drawer, and a top gallery rail. The wood features a prominent, wavy grain pattern, often referred to as tiger oak or quarter-sawn oak, which was highly popular in the late Victorian and Edwardian periods. The construction and decorative elements, such as the ornate carvings near the top and the simple, straight legs, are consistent with the Victorian or Edwardian era, circa 1880-1910. It features elaborate scroll or acorn-style carvings just below the top surface. The metal or wooden rail running along the back and sides of the top surface is a common feature on washstands, designed to keep items from falling off. The drawer pulls are a metal bail pull, typical of the period. 42" H x 18 1/2" L x 17" W Good condition.
