Description
A burnished and saggar fired porcelain vase created by the American ceramic artist Scott Tubby. Tubby is known for pioneering the technique of combining burnishing with saggar firing to create these unique surfaces, with some of his pieces held in the permanent collection of the Smithsonian Museum of American Art. The unglazed, smooth, and shiny surface is achieved through hand-burnishing with a smooth stone and olive oil before firing. The unique colors and patterns are created during a second firing, where the pot is placed inside a lidded clay container (a saggar) packed with combustible materials like salt, sawdust, marsh grass, and iron oxide. The resulting patterns are unique to each piece. 6 1/2" H x 8" Dia Good condition.
