Description
A handmade raku pottery lidded jar. The distinctive speckled green-blue glaze and the fish-shaped finial on the lid are characteristic of artistic, handcrafted ceramics. The jar is made of ceramic and has a characteristic raku glaze. The raku firing process gives the piece a unique, often iridescent, crackled appearance. The piece has a rounded, squat shape with a fitted lid, topped by a sculpted fish finial. The specific green and blue coloration with darker, charred-looking spots is typical of the raku firing process where the pottery is removed while hot and placed in organic materials to create a reduction atmosphere. Signed at underside. 8 1/2" H Good condition.
