Description
An antique 14k shell cameo that functions as both a pin/brooch and a pendant. It is a style known as "habillé" (French for "dressed") because the carved figure is depicted wearing an actual diamond necklace accent. The main figure is hand-carved from a natural conch shell (likely a Cassis rufa or carnelian shell), which gives the background its characteristic orange/peach color and the figure a white/cream profile. The cameo is set in a decorative 14k white gold filigree frame, which suggests an Art Deco or Edwardian period style (circa early 20th century). The back has a pin stem with a locking catch and a folding bail to allow it to be worn as a necklace pendant. A small, single-cut diamond is set into the carving to represent a necklace the woman is wearing. The brooch features crisp and distinct details visible in her hair, dress, jewelry, flowers, and facial features. H: 2" Good condition.
