Description
A Chinese reverse-painted glass snuff bottle, which is an intricate form of traditional Chinese art where the design is meticulously hand-painted on the inner surface of the glass. The painting, featuring children playing around bamboo, symbolizes prosperity and happiness in Chinese culture. Known as nèihuà (内画), artists use a fine brush with an angled tip, working through the narrow neck of the bottle in reverse, applying fine details first and the background last. The scene of children at play (often called the "hundred children" theme) is a popular motif in Chinese art, wishing for a prosperous and happy family life. The bamboo in the painting is also a traditional symbol of resilience and the gentleman junzi. Snuff bottles became a fashionable novelty during the Qing dynasty and were a significant symbol of status. Inside-painted bottles were introduced in the 18th century and became increasingly refined over time. 3" H Good condition.
