Description
A vintage Chinese reverse-painted glass snuff bottle. These bottles were created to hold powdered tobacco, or snuff, and are highly collectible. Snuff bottles were popular in China from the 18th century onward and represent a wide range of Chinese art forms. The bottle painting depicts two female figures in a landscape. The technique of reverse painting, where the inside of the glass is painted through a small opening, is a laborious process requiring great skill. The small, air-tight design with a tiny scoop was specifically developed for the humid conditions in Asia to keep the snuff dry. 13" x 2" Good condition.
