Description
A Mid-Century Scandinavian folk art embroidery by Barbro Sprinchorn with a Viking motif. This type of wall hanging was popular in the 1950s-1970s and is inspired by historical Norse themes, runic symbols, and a mid-century modern aesthetic. This textile is an embroidery by the renowned Swedish designer Barbro Sprinchorn. Her mid-century modern works are frequently signed with the initials "BS". The piece depicts scenes with a Viking ship and warriors, a style and subject found in her body of work. Sprinchorn worked for the prestigious Märta Måås-Fjetterström atelier between the 1950s and 1960s, a period when Swedish rug weaving evolved from a folk craft to an art form of global importance. Her tapestries and embroideries are known for their distinctive designs and are even displayed in the Swedish National Museum. 36.5" H x 17.5" W x 1.5" D Good condition.
