Description
A limited edition reproduction of the famous artwork titled "I Love You" by the American entertainer and artist Red Skelton. Skelton was well-known for his clown paintings, a hobby he pursued throughout his life and which eventually became a very successful second career. Richard Bernard "Red" Skelton (1913–1997), a celebrated American comedian, radio, and TV star who also became a prolific painter of clowns. This work is titled. "I Love You", and is one of Skelton's iconic clown portraits. The original work was an oil painting, but this reproduction is a signed, limited-edition lithograph on canvas, no. 1949/5000. The artwork features a portrait of Skelton's most famous character, Freddie the Freeloader, the gentle-hearted hobo-clown. Freddie is depicted from the chest up, wearing a battered dark hat and a suit jacket over a collared shirt with a red tie. He has a red nose, rosy cheeks, a gentle smile, and wire-rimmed glasses perched on his nose. He is looking directly at the viewer with a cheerful, wide-eyed expression, and holds up his left hand with his index and middle fingers extended in a "peace" or "v for victory" sign, which is interpreted as his iconic "I Love You" gesture, as indicated by the title.
